See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

My last pinned post I made years ago, so I thought it was time for an update!

My name is June 🌱

I’m 18 and my pronouns are she/they

I’m an absolute lesbian disaster, and any gender identity or sexuality is welcome here, this is a safe blog for neopronoun users, microlabel users etc

I’m not incredibly active on here anymore, and mostly stick to either reblogging or the occasional rant about one of my interests!

Here are some the fandoms I’m a part of that you’re most likely to find in this blog consistently :

Taylor Swift

Hozier

The Marauders (I do not support Jk rowling’s views in any way shape or form, nor do I support her financially in any way either.)

The grishaverse in all its forms

Avatar the last airbender

Lord of the rings

Anne with an E

Stranger things

Everything everywhere all at once

Marvel (mostly Spiderman and Loki)

(there are many more, specially shows I’m a fan of, but that I will rarely post about unless there’s an occasion for it such as a new season, or important news.)

I’m also into a number of animes, which you can expect to see around:

Banana Fish (trigger warning will always be applied when posting about this particular anime)

Attack on Titan

Violet Evergraden

Nana

All Ghibli movies

All Makoto Shinkai movies

Sk8 to infinity

I’m also very much into many cartoons (other than atla) such as arcane or the owl house, but this post is already getting too long, so if you want to know of I’m a part of any other fandom at all feel free to ask!

Also feel free to ask any of my opinions on characters, fandoms, ships etc if you want to! As long as said questions are appropriate of course. I’m always up for analysing and discussing the things I love, so those asks are always appreciated!

I’m a pretty critical person, so I sometimes go on rants about a piece of media, either analysis it or just sharing my opinion. If that’s something you’re intrested in, you’re in the right place!

So, I’m from the Canary Islands, so if I want to have books in English I’ll have to order them around a month in advance, because of how long they take to arrive… Today I finally went to pick up a book that arrived last week. It’s “Our Wives under the Sea” by Julia Armfield… It’s about a failed submarine mission.

I cannot make this shit up the universe's comedic timing is everything sorry but I laughed titanic titanic submarine submarine our wives under the sea

Something that I love and appreciate about Ash Lynx that I don't see many people talking about is his lack of desire for personal revenge. It's such a small and obvious detail, that I don't think we stop to think about it enough, but Ash is not consumed by revenge. Even after everything that happened to him, we never see him express a desire to kill or torture Dino, or anyone else who hurt him, we just wants to be free. Even with researching banana fish he's just trying to figure out what's wrong with his brother so that he can cure him, his motive is never revenge. Wanting to destroy and make Dino suffer would be a completely understandable reaction, yet all he wants to do is prevent other children from experiencing the same things he did.

The only times we see Ash express a desire for revenge, is when people he loves are hurt. This is seen several times with Eiji, such as when he's shot and he chases the men and shoots them with rage in his eyes, or when Shorter dies and he kills Dawson as he begs for mercy. This is why at the start I emphasised *personal revenge*. But I just think that his overall lack of thirst for revenge and just deep desire to be free is an extremely important facet of his character, that really just highlights who he is on the inside beyond all the violence and suffering, and is also very telling of his strength.

This is also one of the reasons why I dislike the "yut lung is just ash without eiji" rhetoric, because I feel like it does such a disservice to both their characters. Yes, they've lived through similar trauma and are in several ways parallels to each other, but they're different people with or without someone to support them. First of all, before Eiji, Ash did have someone, Shorter, and he had other people he cared about such as Skipper and his gang. Obviously none where as influencial or life changing as Eiji was, but painting him as being completely alone before meeting Eiji simply isn't true. Secondly, Ash and Yut lung are very separate people with separate personalities and with indivual nuances to their stories despite their similarites. One of these is the desire for revenge. As I established Ash isn't consumed by personal revenge, but Yut Lung very much is, his entire first arc is his search for revenge agaisnt his own brothers, whom he wants to kill.

Yut Lung isn't Ash without Eiji, he's just Yut Lung. He's a different person with different responses and reactions to the world around him, and of course, having someone to love and care for him would be monumental, but he'd still be a completely different character to Ash, and in my personal opinion, would have a harder time accepting that love than him (as we see briefly with his connection with Sing).

Of course there's also differences in their stories that I think are worth noting. I won't do it on this post because frankly I've been procrastinating making lunch and I need to do that rn. But reducing Yut Lungs's character to an "ash without eiji" is truly tragic in my opinion, and not only a disservice to him as a character but also to his story. Yut lung isn't just there to be a parallel to Ash, and I feel like we sometimes forget that. Anyway I'll get more into the nuances of Yut lung's character, and the nuances of his and Ash's stories and they way they both parallel and differ from each other if y'all want. If not I'll probably forget, and it'll just live in my mind, keeping me awake at 4 am.

rosengine

Finally a good fucking analysis

Imo that's what makes Ash such a sympathetic character even when he goes overboard at times and is more violent than he needs to be. The guy just wants to be free and be left to heal and HE DOESN'T FUCKING GET THAT. THEY JUST WON'T LET HIM BE

And yeah Yut-Lung is very different from him!! His desire for revenge is very very valid and understandable. He's sympathetic too (my fav character actually). I think what makes him a villain is the way he drags Ash into his own drama, siding with his (Ash's) enemies (LEAVE HIM THE FUCK ALONEEEE STOP SENDING HIM BACK TO DINO LEAVE HIM ALONE) and the way he just can't control himself and he explodes and does Really Bad Things.

Which, again, is a very understandable character trait from someone who's been abused as much as he has.

Ash has a similar backstory but he reacts to it in a "noble" and "heroic" way. Yut Lung by contrast is a mess. His emotions are all over the place. He has a fucking problem and he's about to make it everyone's fucking problem. And I think this contrast is what lead to Yut Lung's deep fascination with Ash and seeming desire to control/destroy him (I think it's more a case of "I want to put you under a microscope and study you" except Yut Lung doesn't know how to love, he can only interpret his own emotions through the lens of the violence and control he grew up with).

(And i love him!!! He's such a cool and fascinating evil little guy.)

Anyway sorry for the long reblog and sorry if any of this was like super obvious or whatever, it's been awhile since i watched/read bfish and i was never very active in the fandom so idk if these aspects of characterisation have already been pointed out a million times in the analysis side of the fandom.

chaotic-multi-fandom

First of all, never apologise for a long reblog on my blog!! Additions no matter how long are always loved and I ALWAYS appreciate when someone takes the time to engage in fandom rants and conversations!!

Second thank you so much! I'm glad you liked my analysis and I totally agree, Ash is an incredibly sympathetic character, and a lot of that comes from his lack of desire of revenge when paired with his deep longing for freedom and peace, which like you said THEY JUST DON'T GIVE HIM!! PLS JUST LET HIM BE HAPPY!!

And yes, I also love Yut Lung, he's my second favourite after Ash himself, which I suppose is kind of ironic. His desire for revenge is definitely and understandable one, and honestly, I really believe his reaction to his experiences would be the more common response of the average person, which is why Ash's "heroic" (as you said) nature is further reinforced when compared to Yut Lung.

One thing you mentioned that I think is key, is that he interprets his emotions "through the lens of the violence and control he grew up with". I really think that's such an important point, because while Ash has been virtually abandoned his entire life, Yut Lung's family was very present (in a horrible way of course). Yut Lung was still very much trapped and suffocated by the frame of not only his family, but the Lee Clan. While Ash formed a gang, Yut Lung was born into one, one of the most important ones of New York no less. This isn't to say in any way that Yut Lung's relationship with his family is worse than Ash's, simply that it's different, and therefore his responses to it are different as well. He was born with a role already chosen for him, and was used as a tool for it (as Ash was by Dino and Blanca) all within his own family, which of course led him to view the world and his own emotions through the violence they taught him, but also led him to a fucked up view of what relationships are. You highlighted the "control" he lived with, which is very true, he lived controlled his entire life, and therefore had a very limited view of what relationships are or could be, for him they all must have some sort of exchange, which is part of why I think he finds Ash so interesting, and has that impulse to study him under that "microscope". Ash gets nothing out of his relationship with Eiji, meaning not any of the things Yut Lung has been taught are valuable, and that threatens everything he knows.

I think there's also something to be said about the importance of the racial background Yut Lung grew up in, established in the most important Chinese clan of the New York Mafia. There's a sense of connection and betrayal there that even Shorter highlights several times throughout banana fish, asking Yut Lung if he'd betray "his own" which probably makes the twines Yut Lung has with his family and clan all the much messier and complicated to deal with. However, I'm not asian (or part of the mafia lmao) so I'm probably not the best to note the nuances of that part of Yut Lung's life. Still, that's also an element that I think is important when it comes to differentiating the two, and why despite their shared trauma their experiences still differ.

Anyway, I'm not fully sure where I was going with all this, and therefore don't have any kind of conclusion lmao. If yours was a long reblog, mine is a goddam bible, oh and also! I don't think any of the things you mentioned were obvious and even if they were that doesn't mean they aren't important when discussing their characters!! Plus, I'm not even in the analytical side of the banana fish fandom to begin with as it has only been a year since I watched it, and really have only ranted about it to my friends so this was really nice! If you've made it this far, I hope you have a great day!

ok so! I just remembered around 6 months ago I posted smth saying that I was so deeply obsessed with banana fish that I was writing an in depth analysis of Ash Lynx, and promised to tag some people in it. This isn’t said analysis (which is still unorganised ), more of just a rant, but I figured it’s a good indication as to what I might post in the future and in case y'all are still interested in banana fish analysis of this style. @

you have to pretend to be a wizard sometimes, for your health. the obvious method is d&d, but you can also open the dishwasher on cold mornings and raise your arms dramatically as you're enveloped in the steam, or you can find a really good stick to walk around in the woods with, or you can run a bizarrely dedicated rp blog on tumblr. but it's an important component of human well being to occasionally pretend to be a wizard.

I did this yesterday I was on a walk To try and feel better And I picked up a large stick And began to walk through the forest While playing the lotr soundtrack on my phone 10/10 would highly recommend lotr dnd

I get why people are talking about the whole submarine titanic thing.

It's awful.

But I'm here to address a different boat related tragedy.

One that absolutely breaks my heart.

Where a boat of migrants sank off the coast of Greece.

This boat had 300 Pakistanis and more than 500 Syrians.

The boat was carrying migrants from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria and Egypt who were fleeing their countries dire economic conditions.

And we're trying to reach relatives in Europe.

What happened with the submarine is a terrible thing.

I just wish this story got the same coverage.

One is about billionaires the other about people escaping economic disasters.

Both about people losing their lives.
